The department handles all legal matters that involve claims pertaining to any organ of state or parastatal. This includes any claims pertaining to human rights, the supply of and charging for utilities (including Eskom and all electricity service providers or re-sellers), social welfare issues, tender and procurement issues in the private and public sector, and any legal challenge to any decision by any government official.
